Rangers defender Ben Davies has admitted he hasn’t given much thought to his future beyond this season.
Currently on a season-long loan at Birmingham City, Davies has become an integral part of Chris Davies’ squad as they push for the League One title and a return to the Championship. The Blues currently sit nine points clear of their nearest challengers, Wycombe, with a game in hand. They also have a chance to reach Wembley, with only Bradford City standing in their way of a potential silverware-winning campaign.
Uncertain Future Despite Fan Support
Davies has impressed since making the switch, with Birmingham fans keen for the club to secure his services permanently.
“I don’t go on social media, or at least not to look for myself, so I haven’t noticed. But if that’s the case, it’s really flattering and brilliant to have their support,” Davies said.
He continued: “I haven’t thought about what comes next yet. My goal was simply to go out on loan, get regular game time, and get my career back on track after a bit of a stop-start spell at Rangers. I’m happy with how things are going, but I haven’t looked beyond the present.”
Reflecting on his time at Birmingham, Davies admitted it took time to establish himself in the squad but now feels settled. “When I arrived, I saw the strength in depth and the quality throughout the team, particularly in defense. It took patience, but I’ve now had a good run of games, and it feels great.”
Rangers’ Loaned-Out Players: Uncertain Paths Ahead
Davies isn’t the only Rangers player at Birmingham. Scott Wright and Kieran Dowell also made the move south in January, while former Celtic midfielder Tomoki Iwata has caught the eye, contributing seven goals—including a stunning strike against Newcastle in the FA Cup.
Meanwhile, another loanee, Rabbi Matondo, could find himself back at Ibrox if Hannover fail to secure promotion. Rangers initially agreed to a loan deal with the German club, with reports from BILD suggesting a permanent move was contingent on them reaching the Bundesliga.
With Hannover currently sitting eighth in the German second division, albeit just six points off top spot, Rangers will be closely monitoring the situation as they weigh up their options for the pacey winger.
